Water Treatment Plant The
MWC Water Treatment Plant Montezuma Water Company’s
Treatment Plant is
located near the town of
Dolores. The Water Treatment Process – Surface water travels from the Dolores River into Lake McPhee. The lake water, or what we call "Raw" water, comes from the lake through a tunnel and into MWC's raw water ponds. The water is pumped from the raw water ponds into the MWC Treatment Plant and at this point a coagulant is added to the water to attract particulate matter. The water then enters the "Actiflo" system. ACTIFLO System - The Actiflo System is a state of the art sedimentation process of pre-filtration. A large amount of particulate matter is removed from the water during this process. The water then travels through one of four multi-media filters and sub-micron particulate matter is removed. The
filtered water then
enters a storage tank located under the treatment plant, called the
"clearwell". At this point, chlorine gas is injected into the filtered
water as a disinfectant. The clearwell provides detention time
adequate to allow for the disinfection of any bacterial contamination. Water
leaves the clearwell and enters into MWC's extensive network of distribution
lines.
