Water Conservation

Montezuma Water Company has been very active in educating the members on water conservation. It is very important that everyone conserve water. Listed below are some of the ways that everyone can participate in saving water.

Help conserve water!

Don’t let water go to waste - Do your part to use water wisely!

Most of the time, when it’s raining, people aren’t paying attention to their water use. A drought is a sad way to get their attention.

The average American uses 166 gallons of water per person per day.

If one person turns off the water while she brushes her teeth every day for a year, she’ll save
                                      3,942 gallons of water.

Do not let water run down the drain when you wash or shave, plug the drain.

If you shower 1 minute less a day you will save 2,400 gallons. Take shallow baths and use low water pressure when showering.

A single lawn sprinkler spraying 5 gallons per minute uses 50% more water in just one hour than a combination of 10 toilet flushes, 2 – 5 minute showers, two dishwasher loads and a full
                                        load of laundry.

You don't have to water your grass on a set schedule. Water only when the grass or plants show signs of needing water. To test your lawn whether or not it needs soaking, step on the grass and if it springs back then you don't need to water.

Do not let the water hose run while washing the car.

Montezuma Water Company is requesting our membership to get involved in water conservation. Residents with an address that ends in an odd number are asked to only water on odd days of the month and members with an even number address water on even days of the month.

Watering plants and lawns should be done in the early morning from 3:00 am to 7:00 am or the late evening 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Use common sense watering lawns and landscaping-not roadways, sidewalks, and driveways. Limit or avoid watering when windy conditions exist.

In the home conservation-put a small amount of food coloring in the tank-Do not flush- after a few minutes check the bowl to see if any color exists.

Take shallow baths and shorter showers. Use low water pressure when showering.

Repair any dripping faucets and leaking toilets. A single drip can waste thousands of gallons of water per year.

Do not let water continuously run down the drain when rinsing dishes, plug the drain. Only run the dishwasher for full loads.

The pie graph below shows the amount of water used each day:

Table of Water Use

The following Table Of Water Use can help you determine how much water your family uses each day, and how much water you could save by replacing old appliances and fixtures and adopting some water wise habits.
